I decided to create this blog after several people came to me with questions about the lifestyle changes I have made.
I am 53 years old and have been a nurse for more than twenty years. When I first became a nurse, the majority of my patients were over 65 years of age, but now almost half of my patients are younger than I am. Additionally, the majority of my patients have multiple comorbid conditions: obesity, diabetes, and hypertension to name a few.
After a month in which all of the patients I cared for were younger than I and had the aforementioned conditions, I decided to make dramatic changes in my life in order to improve my health and to prevent myself from traveling the path which my patients did. At the time, I weighed 220lbs; my BMI was 32.
I first tried the keto diet and incorporated intermittent fasting with it. This worked well, and in six months I had lost 40lbs, but I realized that as a long term lifestyle it was untenable, and I did not feel it was healthy.
Then my daughter recommended that I watch the movie “The Gamechangers”. After some additional research, I recognized the benefits of a whole food plant based lifestyle and adopted it immediately. I have since lost an additional 45 pounds, and more importantly have felt an improvement in my health. I have more sustained energy, my mood is better, and I do not have fluctuations in hunger.
As a result of my decision to adopt a whole food plant based lifestyle, I joined several social media groups. In those, I saw many people asking questions about the lifestyle related to diet, nutrition, recipes etc. This was part of the impetus for creating this blog.
